I’ve gotten back to sewing. It felt so good working with fabric in a different way. A non intricate way. And breaking out the sewing machine was delightful. On the other hand, when I blew off the fine layer of dust that had accumulated, I’ll admit, I was a bit ashamed. Had it really been so long since I’d sewn? Nah, can’t have been. I sewed up a new tote just last….
Well, nevermind that. It was time to start that little engine up again. So, I’m sewing. (Gosh, I’ve gotten slow!) This is looking to be the best tote I’ve made in a while. My color coordination is getting better. And I’ve found a great new interfacing. Everything’s working well and in good time I’m almost through. Then something starts bothering me. There’s this nagging feeling that I’m forgetting something.
Oh well. Moving on. Stitch, stitch, stitch. I’m through! And realize that the tote won’t close. (HUH?) There’s no clasp. And the bag is completely sewn.
&#$%@#! My seam ripper and I got to know each other intimately for the next half an hour.
The moral of this story: Never let your skills get rusty, and if they do, apply oil first.
So I’ve started a Facebook fanpage because…. Well, I guess because I’m supposed to? I mean I’m totally addicted to Facebook now (cough, and Mafia Wars) mainly because I’ve had the chance to reconect with so many people that I’ve lost track of for over a decade!! It’s great! Now if I could stay off there it’d be even better. Ha-ha.
Now, I have the fanpage for my business. I’ve been updating it, but I don’t want to spam it with every single listing every other day. I’m trying to locate useful articles and such but can’t see to find anything relevant. Hmmm, maybe people would be interested in my geekery too….
Ah well. If anyone has any suggestions on what I can fill that blank box with I’d be very grateful. If you can’t tell, I often get writer’s block when I write off the cuff. I appreciate any help I can get.
Check it out here.
And don’t forget to become a fan!
I made this little guy about a day ago out of some black and purple silk. All of the other fabrics that I’d been working with lately have been really sunny and bright so I wanted to switch paces for one piece.
I like the gothic lolita color schemes and the creativity of the whole movement so black and purple spoke to me. I even managed to scrounge up a few deep purple swarovski crystals to make the body.
Now that I’ve this fella under my belt, it’s time to start making some more! I think my bridal section is going to get a little fatter over the next few weeks.
It’s raining and I’m tired. Time to call Pizza Hut.
I learned today that the traditional kanzashi for August is pampas grass. I guess I shouldn’t be making things like this. Heh- heh.:
It’s the first kanzashi that I’ve made with silk. I love how it turned out, but goodness was it hard to work with. It didn’t seem to want to keep its shape. I think I’ll have to invest in some potato or rice starch for these fabrics.
I actually used muslin for the extra petals and the tiny flower on the end. I liked how it looks, very natural. I’ve learned that it mustn’t be handled too much or you’ll get little tiny “hairs.”
Aaaand I finally get to use up those funky little pearls that I’ve kept all these years.
I really like my take on kanzashi. So far people have loved them in my neighborhood. Oh! And I’ve actually sold a pair to someone in France! My work is international now. ^_^ hee-hee!

My kids have gone with the grandparents to Charleston for the day! I’m so happy. This is the first free day I’ve had in at least six months. It’s too bad I’m going to spend most of it cleaning house. ^_^ I have so many chores to do, but… I will get to go to Michael’s and buy some new beads. Which means new necklaces, earrings, bracelets and such. I might even make myself a new set for church on Sunday. Now.. where to hide the receipt from my husband?
On another note, I made my first sale on Etsy today. It was the first thing in my e-mail inbox today. I nearly squealed in delight and just had to bug my hubby at work. If the girls hadn’t been asleep, I really would have acted a complete and utter fool.
Well, off to create! Ciao!
