Beware! Beware! Website jacking!

To all my buyers, please be aware that my old web address, randomcatgirl.com, has been taken by a domain squatter. They scooped it up as soon as it expired. Now, instead of my store all you will find is a rambling blog. I will have a new domain and website very soon. Random CatGirl will be even bigger and better!

Thanks for being so loyal!

Craft Show Report – Lexington, SC

Hello all,

Long time no see. Sorry it’s been a month since the last post. I’ve been extremely busy. I had to get ready for a craft show last week so I’d been sewing like a mad woman for nearly a month. It took place at Pleasant Hill Elementary School in Lexington, SC, not too far from me. It was a great set up, great location and times. The building was well lit and in great repair. The only problem was that Tropical Depression Ira came through, drenching the whole state. I mean, it rained for three days straight.

craft fair1The traffic was pretty good. There were lulls, just like any other venue so I didn’t mind. It gave me a chance to look around at all the other great items being sold. I was told that the traffic wasn’t even half of the attendance they had last year so that gives me some great hope for next years show.

I also learned a LOT from selling here. Purses weren’t a big seller, but goodness gracious, my kanzashi were. I nearly sold out of all of my cheaper, single flower designs. Everyone loved my headband with the red and beige flowers, but I don’t think anyone had an outfit to go with it. The kanzashi went mostly to mothers with daughters who took ballet. They wanted something unsual and unique for them and I was proud to be able to offer it. craft fair 2

While I shied away from craft shows in the past, I’ll definitely be doing more in the future. So many people took my card and said they would pass it on that I couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear. Which reminds me, I need to finish up that website of mine!

Ciao people! I’ll be back with more news soon.

More Butterflies

Since my very first butterfly (see last post) I’ve been on a butterfly kick. I’ve made two cute little white ones with crystals and will be making a lot of them for a couple of major kanzashi that I sketched out during choir practice. (Bad me!) I will update with pictures very, very soon.

My Very First Butterfly! WIP

I made this little guy about a day ago out of some black and purple silk. All of the other fabrics that I’d been working with lately have been really sunny and bright so I wanted to switch paces for one piece.

I like the gothic lolita color schemes and the creativity of the whole movement so black and purple spoke to me. I even managed to scrounge up a few deep purple swarovski crystals to make the body.

Now that I’ve this fella under my belt, it’s time to start making some more! I think my bridal section is going to get a little fatter over the next few weeks.

So much fabric….

Hello all. I had a wonderful gift given to me by a fellow Etsian. She works with vintage kimono pieces and gave me a great deal of scraps to make my kanzashi out of. I’ve been so happy!

I’ve started to work with a few of the pieces. (All that startching is hard work!) All of them are deep blues and one is a beautiful shade of purple with embroidery. I’ve completed one hair comb with the great navy and off white fabric and you can find it on Etsy. Not a bad start.

Now my only problem is that I have more fabric ready to be cut than I have planned projects for! What a problem! ^_^

Spring has sprung!

I’m so happy it’s finally spring!! Although it may be rainy here in Columbia, it’s finally warm. I’m spending the day making kanzashi for an order and for the wedding season. With the Sparkleberry Fair coming up next month, I have a LOT to do. I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it, but now I finally know that I can.

I’ve managed to successfully dye two small pieces of silk to a lovely navy blue and a teal color. These are going to be combined with my white and black silks to make some amazing kanzashi sets. Look out for them soon.

I’m toying with some new clothing designs, all of which will be pretty much one of a kind. Combining my artistic skills with my love of fashion. Here’s hoping it works out!
